My Zines

My experience with zine-making first began at LA Zinefest. I got the idea to start making my own zines and was inspired to represent my Sino-Burmese heritage by making a cookbook with my father Nelson. From there, we began to collaborate on multiple zines, including The Kitchen Thief and Words for My Daughter series. He writes and I edit, draw, format, and assemble in my studio.

For me, making zines is a smaller form of creation, but an immense labor of love. Through zines, I get to express my passion for connecting with others through education.

Our zines have been seen at LA Zinefest, SD Zinefest, Wende Zinefest, and Inland Empire Zinefest! I’ve also made appearances at Chevalier’s Bookstore and Secret Headquarters, both located in Los Angeles.

  • The Kitchen Thief

    • Our first zine project, “The Kitchen Thief” is a series of Sino-Burmese cookbooks written by my father and illustrated by me. Through them, we get to share our culture and cuisine and teach you yummy recipes! Don’t forget to thank our cute assistant thief Sunny for her help!

  • Words for My Daughter

    • When I was young, my father wrote a blog called Notes for My Daughters. This blog contained messages and journal entries for me and my younger sister in case something had ever happened to him. Now we’re older and we decided to take these words and transform them to be beneficial for everyone! “Words for My Daughter” is a father’s love given form.

  • Sketchbook zines

    • My sketchbook zines were created from 2024-2025 containing pages filled with art of my original characters and art studies. I split these drawings into two themed zines: “Characters” and “Studies”.

The “Characters” zine is a culmination of our love for telling stories, featuring original characters from recent TTRPG games to our childhood and anything in between.

The “Studies” zine is exactly what it says on the tin. It features art from my travels, showing off different facets of life. I take inspiration from everywhere and the locations are noted within the zine!

  • Accounting zine

    • “The Artist’s Introduction to Accounting” zine is a project between me (the artist) and my friend at Unicorn Accounting (a real unico-, I mean, accountant)! We’ve both spent plenty of time working with artists on both charity and for-profit projects and the financial responsibility comes along with it. I’m passionate about educating people and wanted to get real, expert advice to help people in a simple, approachable way.
